Is it too many?

Again, today is coin hunting event for Malaysia Commemorative Coin collectors in conjunction with 50 Anniversary of Yayasan Sabah. As usual, this issuance is again attaining with the overwhelming responses from the proof coinage enthusiasts, you may notified by various Facebook photo sharing about their excitement of waiting in the lobby of Sasana Kijang or various BNM branches since the night before the next day.

Wow, it is great fun!

The update from Mr. MK Wong about the latest condition in the night before tomorrow.

However, some resentments from collector are risen in recent days about the coin issuance frequency of Central Bank which is too high, it is almost once a month since March 2016, the similar feedbacks were upstretched via social media or blogs. In my view, I didn’t see this issue a problem, it is just like a rule of thumb of marketer: you couldn’t satisfy all people in different demands.

As long as the collectors feel happy and satisfied with the issuance, Bank Negara should remain their current pace. Those collectors who are financial in-affordable, you may lend a way to the other collectors or take a rest for this round. You shouldn’t force yourself to complete all the varieties if you couldn’t do it. Collection is a hobby for fun not suffer. In fact, even 5-6 issuance in a year are not that many compared to other countries. We have a lot of proof coin collectors in this country. Some collectors may only focus on certain theme only, but not at all. If Bank Negara reduce the frequency, they may miss up. Thus, it is a never ending debate if the issuance decision is steered by commercial consideration of numismatic market.

Reversely, I would like to suggest Bank Negara to create wider platform for the participation of enthusiasts to contribute their ideas and feedbacks about the coming theme or coinage design or education campaign for the making of the proof coin. The effort of promoting collection should not be confined to selling as whole.
