A set of Sarawak Charles Brooke coinages dated in 1900 has been sold for GBP13, 500 + 18% buyer premium by A. H Baldwin, Auction 95 in 23 September. According to the description of auctioneer, the whole set of coin are prooflike in condition. Some light surfaces marks was observed, otherwise they are good extremely fine with dappled tone.
As my view, take the prooflike assumption of auctioneer is true and fair, absolutely its prooflike feature is the main selling point of this lot in addition to the lot is complete in different denomination for the same year type. Undeniably, this set of coin is extremely rare.
Collectively say, Sarawak coinages are performing well in recent years especially in the foreign auctions, its proven rarity started to gain the attention of coinage collectors.
