Two identical coins were offer for auction by Heritage Auction in June 2017 which are NGC MS 63 and MS 62, in general practice most of us may hold the norm that the 1-mark-difference does not contain much different in coin condition or transaction price. However, this norm was not valid until the exceptional case as shown.

A piece of Borneo Plantation Token, Sandakan SS-54, P-66, NGC PF64RD has been sold through eBay for USD 848.00 (Approximately RM3650 in May 2017. Most of the Borneo Plantation coin series are calling attention of old coin collectors recently.

Straits Settlements 1/4C 1862 NGC MS64BN

A piece of Straits 1862 1/4 cent which secured by NGC holder and also highest grade of BN category in NGC census has been sold via eBay for USD 2,049. According to NGC census, 2 pieces of MS64BN have been recorded and another two pieces in MS64RB and MS65RB were found. In total, 11 pieces in MS were archived insofar (the real number may be lesser if cross sending or re-sending for grading without data adjustment).

Sarawak 20 cents specimen in NGC SP64

 

 

 

 

A piece of Sarawak 20 cents specimen coin dated 1900H (minted by Heaton Mint) has been sold by Heritage Auction for USD 5736 (approx. RM26,000) in 2017 June 22 - 23 HKINF World Coins & Ancient Coins Signature Auction - Hong Kong Auction. The said coin is graded by NGC in SP 64.

 

The following is about the auctioneer description for the said coin:

"British Protectorate. Charles J. Brooke Specimen 20 Cents 1900-H SP64 NGC, Heaton mint, KM10. A gorgeous example of this rare issue in Specimen, featuring deep multicolored tone on the obverse that lightens to a beautiful mixture of orange-gold, blue, green, yellow and crimson on the reverse. Presumably ex. Heaton Mint Archives where there were 8 examples. In terms of eye-appeal, this is certainly the finest we've seen.

1900-H年砂撈越20分樣幣。SP64 NGC, 喜敦造幣廠。樣幣系列中罕見的發行。正面呈極美的多彩包漿，背面結合了橘色、藍色、綠色、黃色和深紅色彩。大概是出自喜敦造幣廠中八枚之一。賞心悅目，非常吸引，是我們經手過最佳的一枚。"

 

According to population report of established grading company, there are about 6 specimen piece existed today (the volume may lesser if crossed grading occur without data adjustment).

这句话在收藏圈里绝对是耳熟能详的言论，笔者相信大家也应该曾经掀起这样念头，或者现在你就正在朝着这个方向经营你的藏品。我们暂时先抛开一件藏品是否能捏到退休日子的到来，就回归正题：收藏品是否真的能当作退休金来看待？显然收藏投资是一项高回筹也相对高风险的玩意，简单来说就是它可以让你得到翻倍的赚幅，也可以不单止让你失去金融成本（利息）甚至连本金也亏下去了。所以如果你必须能承担相对大的风险，选择收藏投资这条路，也许有些因素你是不容忽视的。

Straits Settlements 1920 10 cents NGC MS62

Straits Settlements 1920 10 cents in secured by NGC MS62 has been sold through Stacks & Bower's Ponterio, Hong Kong in 5th April 2017. According to auctioneer's price estimation, the coin estimated price is within $500-$750,  but it sold at 4.5 times than estimated eventually and hammered at $3,346 (including buyer premium). Based on auctioneer description, the said coin is merely about 2 pieces in record, perhaps it is the main issue lead to the stiff competition among the bidders.

In addition, the total mintage of year type 1920 was about 4,000,000 million according to the mint archive, However, due to the hiking of silver price in 1920 caused the Straits Government decided to recall the newly manufactured coin to the oven again. Only small amount of them was successfully conserved until today.

Straits Settlements 1862 India Straits 1/2 cent NGC63RB

A piece of finest certified coin in Red-Brown condition by NGC, Straits Settlements 1862 India Straits 1/2 cent secured by NGC in grade MS63BN has been sold by Stack's Bowers & Ponterio in Hong Kong in April 2017. It is a one-year-type coinage and mint state condition is just extremely hard to be hunted nowadays. The estimation price given by auctioneer was within USD750-USD1000, it was hammered at 80% higher than auctioneer's estimation eventually and sold at USD 1,792 (USD 1 = RM4.5, retail rate)

Sarawak 1900H 50 cents AU

A piece of non-graded Sarawak 1900H 50 cents has been sold by Mavin International Auction in 21 March 2017 for SGD 440 +20%. According to the Auctioneer description, the said coin is dug, toned and hairline in condition. The luster feature of coin surface is no longer significant. Undeniably, it is high possible that the coin will score Details grade if sent for grading service. Such results is again opened our eye if compared to previous records.

Straits Settlements EIC 1/2c 1845 NGC MS63RB

A piece of  Straits Settlements EIC 1/2c 1845 NGC MS63RB has been sold by Mavin International Auction House at SGD 3,600 (after buying premium) in 21 March 2017. The result is once again called the attention of antique coin collectors, especially in the bearish market today.  Such theme was getting to be assumed as cold items for long period time although some of their scarcity are undoubtedly rare in mint state condition.

Controversial Malaysia Tapir Gold Plated Coin dated 1976 is listed on eBay

A piece of controversial tapir gold coin has been listed on eBay recently by a Singapore-based seller. The coin is claimed gold plated and suitable for reference and study purpose but the seller doesn't give further details especially about the authenticity of the coin. According to the numismatics record, none of the gold plated version had been issued by Bank Negara Malaysia before, insofar only two gold made versions have been issued which are normal strike type and proof strike type. The existence of gold plated version is just shocking us!

Besides, the coin on sale is coarse in details and doesn't show the features such as genuine coin which is always sharp and fine (as bellow). According to the pictures illustrated in sale listing, the authenticity of said coin is in doubted and potentially deviated from the genuine coin from the eye-judgment of experience numismatic player. You may need to pay more focus and attention if given chance to engage this type of coin.

如何分辨普通版与样币版的马来亚北婆罗硬币系列

前几天笔者曾经发文分享关于2017四月份即将来临的Stack's Bowers拍卖会上的一批马来亚北婆罗系列硬币的样币。网友讨论间就掀起了一个很大疑问，如何去区分普通版与样币版的疑问，因为两者几乎没有明显的表面差别，要是没有实物观察，三言两语恐怕没办法释义网友们的疑惑。

In total 5 pieces of certified specimen coins of Malaya And British North Borneo have been listed in Stack's Bowers Auction in coming April 2017 (Hong Kong session). In general, most of them are still retained in excellent luster and flawless appearance instead of relatively less in number according to well established population reports in market.

新款硬币会生锈？．20仙50仙氧化发黑

（马六甲19日讯）近年来马币大幅度贬值，莫非硬币也跟着“变质”，变成容易氧化、发黑、面目全非的货币？《古城》社区报接获市民投诉，指20仙和50仙硬币容易“氧化”及变得黑漆漆，不管如何清洗都无法恢复原状，有些情况严重的根本看不出其面值，非常不方便。

白铜改成镍和黄铜

国家银行于2012年发行的第三版硬币，将50仙和20仙的成份从白铜改成镍和黄铜，面积分别为22.65mm及20.60mm，5仙和10仙则改成不锈钢，面积各为17.78mm和18.80mm。由于面积和颜色相近，以致硬币通用5年来，许多消费者依然难以明确辨认这4种硬币，导致买卖时容易引起不必要的误会。

林先生：新款硬币“生锈”

退休公务员林先生今日向《古城》社区报投诉，其孙子存了一年的硬币之中，金色的20仙及50仙很多都“氧化”了，大部份像“生锈”，一部份则变成黑色，看不清其币值。他说，出现问题的硬币都是国家银行后来发行的金币，其他早期银色的10仙、20仙及50仙全部没有变色，反而是新款的硬币变得难以辨认，令人质疑其质地的专业性。他认为，钱币是一个国家荣誉的象征，如果国家发行的硬币如此不耐用，外国游客拿在手中对我国肯定有负面看法。

“而且这2款金币长得太像了，大小也差不多，对老人家非常不方便，经常会拿错钱来付费，加上2款都是金色，更加让人在使用时无法在一时间分辩清楚。”

商家不能拒收

他指出，后来前往询问银行柜台人员，对方表示只要硬币还完整无缺，即使发黑也可以使用，商家不能以硬币变质为由来拒绝接收，否则消费人可以做出投诉。

“我希望政府可以认真看待这件事，研究如何改善硬币的质地，同时把20仙及50仙的大小分开，不要为难市民了.

赖瑞林：颜色大小差不多难分辨

马六甲杂货商公会主席赖瑞林认为，20仙及50仙硬币的质料非常差，才推出时金光闪闪，一段日子后就变得暗淡无光，后来更是严重发黑，对杂货零售商及小贩造成很大的困扰。他说，这2款硬币一开始就惹人诟病，市民都觉得难以分辨，因为两者的体积相差无几，做生意时为了快常常发生找错钱，或是顾客给错钱的状况。

“以前的50仙大过20仙，拿在手上很容易分得清楚，而且材质比后来发行的金币来得好，在市面上流通多年也不会发生变黑的的情况。”

他指出，一般上除非硬币表面已经难以辨认币值，商家才会拒绝接收，否则都会照收不误，只是纸币一旦破损、被涂鸦或是模糊不清，商家就会一概不收。

他指出，一些顾客也不愿接受发黑的硬币，面对顾客的要求商家都会给予比较清晰及干净的硬币。

“我们希望国家银行可以重新设计新的硬币款式，以方便人民为考虑点，让硬币在使用过程中更加方便。”

邱培栋：易氧化影响国家形象

爱极乐区州议员邱培栋表示，易氧化发黑的硬币严重影响我国的形象，尤其主打旅游业的我国在面对许多外来游客时，恐怕难以解释这个现象。

“每一种面值的货币含有相对的价值，如今马币不断贬值，是否导致我国没有能力生产有素质的硬币？而合作生产硬币的澳洲公司，也应解释当中原因，或者用证据去证实硬币的材质。”

曾在银行任职的他表示，当人民拿到这类已变质的硬币，不妨拿到银行去兑换及反映意见，由银行向国家银行询问及要求鉴定真伪；只要还能看得出面值的硬币，银行没有理由不收。

“若真硬币会氧化发黑，国行必须做出解释，一旦发现是假币，国行自然更应彻查。”

他指出，当年国行宣布停止生产及使用1令吉硬币，最大原因是太多伪造硬币流通在市场。

他认为，货币是帮助经济流动的媒介，国家银行有责任生产利于大众日常生活的货币，像这类容易变质的硬币给大众带来不便，消费者担心商家拒收，商家也担心收了无法再流通出去，进而造成个人损失。

颜色相似易混淆

邱培栋表示，另一个问题是50仙和20仙、10仙和5仙，两组硬币的个别面积和颜色非常相似，容易引起混淆，使用者必须小心翼翼端倪其面值，以免造成误会及纷争。

他认为，新货币推行多年来，国人依然无法一眼辨认面值，因此，国家银行有必要重新检讨这一款硬币的设计，务必方便使用者为上。
